Nice to see the topic revived...

That's why I resorted to having my hardcopy Michels scanned and converted to PDF -- portable, searchable, and high-res.

Happy to see I'm not the only one doing this :)

As for how to do the conversion, here's a page with detailed instructions on how to build a DIY book scanner: http://www.diybookscanner.org/

Yes, it takes some time & equipment (=money) to build a proper tool. But it's very much worth it.

Did you shoot all (let's say) left-sided pages first, then go back and do the right? Or did you reposition the book from left to right, then page turn, then left to right again?

I shot all one side, then repositioned and shot the other. This kept me from having to make adjustments to the camera between every shot.

As for OCR, I used Acrobat Pro.

Thanks, PM. That's what I thought you were describing, but wanted to make sure. Makes sense to me.

SCB, thanks for the link to the DIY scanners. That's what got me started thinking about this in the first place, but, after researching a bit, I came to the conclusion that those systems were far too complex for me to do. I don't have the space, nor the tools, to do what a lot of those people did. Very admirable, though! Postmaster's setup sounds much more achievable for me, given my skills and resources. (Love your blog, by the way!)

@Philatarium... Thanks ;)

I agree that the device presented on the link may seem complex, but in the end it's very similar to what PostmasterGS is using. As these are DIY-solutions, every solution is built slightly different. But all operate on same basic principle: lights, camera, tripod/camera holder, book holder, and action. The rest is simply there to make the process easier & faster (allowing automation, batches etc).

Hi all,

I am looking for someone to verify a couple of stamps for me, Please and Thank You.

I have South Arabia Qu'aiti State that is not listed in Scott's. I have been told they are listed in Michel's. If one of you wonderful members happen to have a moment, could you please check your Michel's catalogue and let me know if #116 is really for 25f Space Exploration and the current value?

I have a total of 7 of these Space Exploration stamps, so any help would be really super. OR if one of you can direct me to where I could find this information that would be a good learning tool for me.

I did try the on-line catalogue as mentioned above but South Arabia nor Qu'aiti is not listed.

Thanks in advance,
Luree

stampmall has the set listed as Mi#115-121 MUH for $6.00

YeaPolska,

You are a wonder! Why I didn't stop and think to Google South Arabia is a total mystery me to. Thank you so much for verifying this. That is the set I have and mine are CTO's.

Thank you, again.
