This is an odd cover. It is not an advertising cover and is somewhat tatty but, interesting nonetheless. I can only assume it was sent from an employee of the Red Rose Tea / Coffee Company. One of the many different types of clubs during the war. Chimo Bujutsu

Interesting... I wonder how that is supposed to benefit stamp collectors? |

Right jamesw
Drink more coffee and intake more caffein. That way, you can't sleep, so, you spend those hours working on your stamps.
Crafty idea <G>

I guess Red Rose has always liked its gimmicks. They still put those little china figurines (animals etc) in boxes of their teabags... |

Maybe you could send in a certain number of coupons and get a packet of stamps? Then when you took the kids to the grocery they'd squirm and fidget and whine until you bought the "right" brand of coffee. |

This cover was obviously creased and crushed by the canceling machine, notice the spaces in the CDS and flag. |

Wow -- 22crows -- that was an impressive find. Did you do a specific search into archived newspapers, or did it just show up in a general Google search? Either way, impressive!

22crows is my chief researcher, but she never gives away her brilliant search techniques, she doesn't ask for a raise either :)

While recycling more paper, I stumbled across this little booklet. It ties in some with the stamp promotions etc. It is a small catalogue published by the Red Rose Tea Company and it has only 46 pages. Unfortunately, there isn't a year on it we can go by but, it is fairly old by the paper toning. I have scanned the front and back covers and the middle pages as well. A lot of the listings within were mainly British colonies and Commonwealth nations but other foreign stamps were listed as well. Chimo Bujutsu |
