And Orchha

Don't bother looking for these in the catalogues. They shouldn't be there. According to legend, a Swiss jeweller passed through Orchha in the 1890s, and tried to interest the State authorities in issuing stamps. He went as far as producing these essays, but the Orchha post office got cold feet, and rejected the idea. Orchha later issued its own stamps, and, wonder of wonders, they looked rather like the jeweller's essays:
