When the monthly American Philatelist arrives I check the section where it lists new potential members and what they collect...i look to see if there is anyone from my area..or anyone that collects the same things I do...Well if the September issue is any indicator..perhaps other APS members will check what I am seeing but it looks like the new members are collecting Topicals, Back of Book material and Cinderellas..even banknotes and postcards..rather than what used to be the Standard United States, Great Britain and Germany country collections..it appears that stamp collecting is becoming more individualistic ..like "Don't tell me what to collect !"
