I too try to complete the postage rate using definitives but we can know the exact postage rate once we reach the postal clerk after standing in the queue, and to save time I have to complete postage rate using meter frank. Normally I use the sticker label for my address, but now from ur comment I feel I would write the address to get a more personal touch.
I will keep a letter with real handwriting on it and a real stamp{S} Recently a new fancy wave type postmark crops up every now and then. It looks kind of like the newer wave design on stamps. And, You can fold your own envelopes. But the Post Office has size rules.
When my sister and her husband-to-be were in Germany, they got a letter from a German friend in this wonderful envelope, made from an advertisement in a magazine.
' I do not enjoy looking at my own handwriting, so - for the sake of the recipient, postal clerks, postal history, and myself - I always address mail with Avery labels. No going over the 5s to make them look more like 5s and less like 6s, etc, etc. Better for everyone.
OTOH, I keep a large, varied stock of old postage, and try to use it to good effect.
