Is there a go-to catalog for Vietnam, perhaps considered specialized, that lists Vietnam stamp varieties?

I have the 2013 Scott, but am wondering if there is something beyond Scott that anyone is familiar with.

I have Vietnamese stamps from both North and South, from the early 1950's through sometime in the 1970s.

Thanks in advance for any contributions!

The most detailed North Vietnamese catalog that I've seen is in Russian. It also illustrates the actual overprints on the early issues, instead of just describing them like Scott.

I don't know the actual name of the catalog, but the one I saw runs from 1945-1985. It was about 200-300 pages and I believe it illustrated every stamp (not just a representative stamp from each set like Scott).

Maybe Nigel is familiar with it?

Hi, Dave...

I don't know if they are still in business, but I know there are many copies of this catalog in circulation, but it does not cover the South Vietnam issues:

Nu-Line Company (E.R. Philatelics)NORTH VIETNAM SPECIALIZED STAMP CATALOGUE 1945-1976 New and Unused This comprehensive publication covers 3 periods: VIET MINH (Democratic Republic of Vietnam ) 1945-1946 NORTH VIETNAM 1946-1976 VIET CONG (National Front for Liberation) 1963-1976 76 pages
Included are photo illustrations, the date of printing, printing company, type of printing and designer stamp ID all in English. Also displayed are Variations, Errors, Translations, and some Covers etc. Scope includes Regular issues, Air Mail, Postage Due, Military Franks, Officials and Postal stationary which covers x76 pages. Nu-Line has additionally included a detailed history of the three periods. This publication has been received as the most comprehensive publication of its kind.

Cheers,
Terry

Kim & Terry:

Thank you both for your help! Really appreciate it!

Believe it or not, through an odd set of circumstances, I may be able to put my hands on both of those catalogs.

As Kim said, the Russian one is specific on the early overpints (of which I have none, in the material I'm currently working on), but I don't believe (although I could be wrong) that it has much on South Vietnam variations (papers, perfs, etc.)

So I would still be interested in learning if there is a catalog that provides that level of information. (Might it be in Michel, Yvert, etc?)

If I can get hold of the Nu-Line North Vietnam catalog, I'll report back about their level of specialist detail.

Thanks to you both!

And looking forward to any additional comments from anyone!

The edition I saw only covered North Vietnam.

Regarding the Nu-Line catalog. The only edition I could find was printed in October 1995. The catalog is currently out of print, but the cover is shown below. It does pop up for sale here and there, and looks like it runs about $25. If you cannot find a copy online, it might be worth a shot giving Subway or Michael Rogers a call to see if they have one for sale. I've had pretty good experience getting old items from Subway -- they don't list their entire literature inventory in their catalogs, only the ones they have sufficient stock. You can also try Mainstreet Philatelics. That's the other stamp dealer I know of who has a pretty decent offering of philatelic catalogs/books, even though pricing may be a bit on the high side.

If you are APS member, the research library might have a copy.

Wow, Kim, thanks very much for doing this research! Very much appreciated!

In a rare twist of fate, I may actually be able to put my hands on a copy locally, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Will keep you posted.

Again, many thanks!!

If they happen to have a 2nd copy of the Nu-Line and it's $25 or less, can you get me one also? Thanks!
