My personal opinion is that ebay has gone totally nuts.

I too cannot understand why they would plan to discontinue this function. Then again, no one ever accused the powers that be within the ebay exec of being smart.

Doing a wildcard search allows a user to search for terms with using the entire word. For instance if I want to search for Germany and want to get results that are mispelled like Germeny I would enter "Germ*" The asterisk assumes any characters that follow the Germ will be returned as a search result.
Search for "Scott 23*" and you could get hundreds of results. Like Scott 2300, or Scott 2347. It was a quick way to search listings that could be mispelled or a range of items.

Hope that helps.

We'll have to start doing searches using google or bing -
Try this in a browser
search ebay revenu stamp
no quotes.
Mine actually returned the correct spelling and the mispelled ebay listings. Sucky work around but may have to be a substitute.

I am suprised how many people misspell Revenu.

Well I still find ebay the best online auction for stamps. I do not like some of the rules and recent changes but learn to live with it and work around it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a wildcard search please? Not heard of this one, and now apparently it's too late.

James, Michael,

Wildcard search is searching anything using characters such as *, ? etc.

For example if you typed in 'Scott R*' in ebay search, it would looking for all entries titles beginning with Scott R. The * represents all the letters after Scott R (whatever it/they may be).

If you searched for 'Scott R?12', the ? represents a single alphabet or number. So the search would return results like Scott R112, Scott R212, Scott R312 etc.

Cheers
R

Sure ebay has treated stamp collectors with disdain for years,,and yet their stock is at $46 dollars a share and their shrewd business deals like with paypal makes them bushels of money..its not going to get better for people buying or selling stamps..its small change to them !
