In 1990 Poland honored its newly-elected President, Lech Walesa, with this commemorative 1700 zloty stamp.

From wikipedia, "Lech Walesa (born September 29, 1943) is a Polish statesman, dissident and Nobel Prize laureate, who served as the first democratically-elected President of Poland from 1990 to 1995."

Here are two stamps depicting medical missionary, humanitarian and Nobel Prize winner Dr. Albert Schweitzer. The Polish stamp (Sc #2758) was issued on September 26, 1986, and the West German stamp Sc #1160) was issued on January 15, 1975.

From wikipedia, "Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) was an Alsatian polymath (person of encyclopedic learning). He was a theologian, organist, writer, humanitarian, philosopher, and physician."

Here is a 2020 French issue celebrating photographer Felix Nadar who sports a significant moustache in this 1865 revolving self-portrait. The second stamp wherein Nadar sports a big grin is my favorite of the set.
Y&T 5392-95 are in the middle row, with labels above and below. I have not yet removed the mini-sheet from its original retail packaging.

This 15 markka stamp (Facit #455) of Finland is from the three-stamp of December 10, 1955 commemorating the centenary of telegraph services in the country. Stamp depicts Otto Nyberg (1825 - 1879, Finland's first Director of Telegrah Services.

On January 10, 2010 Ireland issued this 55c stamp to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Douglas Hyde (1860-1949).

From wikipedia, "Douglas Ross Hyde was an Irish academic, linguist, scholar of the Irish language, politician and diplomat who served as the first President of Ireland from June 1938 to June 1945."

Nice stamp Roberto!

Here is the .10 quetzal value (Sc #C801) from Guatemala's January 28, 1986 set of two airmail stamps commemorating the 90th anniversary of the International Olympic Committee. The stamp depicts Charles Pierre de Fredy, Baron de Coubertin (1863-1937). He is known as "the father of the Olympics"; he founded the International Olympic Committee and was its second president.

Here is the 2.50 dinar value (Sc #234) from Yugoslavia's September 27, 1947 three-stamp set commemorating the centenary of Serbian spelling reform. Stamp depicts Vuk Karadzic (1787-1864), Serbian writer, linguist and translator. Karadzic is the author of the first Serbian dictionary in the new reformed language. Second pic shows a close-up image of the Vuk Karadzic statue in Belgrade, Serbia.
