Today I said I would take some time & post some of my favourite stamps. I generally collect QV, but I picked this item up in an estate collection of an award winning Chalon Head exhibition.
This item was in there & it intrigues me. Anyone have any info? Any value?

more to come

I have never seen that before on Transvaal stamps. There is a member on this forum from South Africa (Stampstudy is his "name") who collects the provinces, he will eventually see this.

I'd be interested in some thoughts on this...there is a whiff of 'revenue' in the air.

The stamps in this series through the 2-shilling were inscribed 'Postage' and 'Revenue' and the stamps from 2/-6d on up were inscribed 'Postage' and 'Postage' but I can't say how important that distinction was.

Thoughts? Answers?

I also thought these were revenues - punched through the document they were attached to. All pre-union stamps including Transvaal, Cape of Good Hope, Natal and Orange River Colony were still valid for use until 1st January 1938.

So is this a revenue? The article that came with the stamps seems to suggest otherwise,
but I can find no information. The cancel does not seem to be a revenue cancel.
I will take it to a show next week & see if I can find anyone who knows
the scoop on these stamps.
Still looking for info if anyone has any
thanks
MArios
