The Chalon heads are great engravings, used throughout the empire. I love those classics! Thanks for showing Softpro!

Nice study collection! I'm not a British Empire collector so I had to get info about Chalon heads. I know now Chalon was a painter who made a portrait QV that was reproduced on stamp. Interesting notes by the original collector. Thank you. Daniel

Beautiful images here. About 30 years ago, I had the chance to buy a poster that stood close to 4 feet high with a Chalon image of QV. This would be around 1980 and the dealer (an antique dealer) wanted $100.00 for it. I thought it would be great collateral material for my collection but in the end declined. Now I am beating my head against the wall for turning it down.

If I remember correctly, the poster was in green, black & white. It was a beauty to say the least.

Very nice presentation softpro.
Did you set all that text with Letraset? Now that's patience! and quite a skill.

Hi, no I did not do that. That's how it came from the estate that I git it from. I am going to remount the whole exhibit. There are about 100 pages like that.

Very nice material.

A couple of questions if I may.
Are the portraits in posts one and two reproductions of the originals written about in the text? Do you know who by ?

The sheet of Black labels produced for the 1940 Stamp Centenary Exhibition at Lancaster House were also issued in Blue. Both were overprinted for the Lord Mayor's Red Cross fund. If you have examples, can you post them up, I have never seen them. Also, they were further overprinted for a special Dinner at the RPSL in 1994.
I wonder why it is written "This was not exhibited until 1954" ?

Great stuff

Hi , this materiel came from a GOLD winning award in 1970. It won numerous awards & was actually exhibited in a museum for a while.
I know very little about the items so far. I know the original compiler was meticulous in collecting and acquiring the items. There is no Blue sheet of labels that I have .

All the engravings are real - not copies or fakes. Really nice pieces.

it will take many months to sort this out & then to figure out how to re-display it. I may just sell it . Not sure now. I just looked up those proofs; They are worth some serious $$$. Hmm. I will have some fun here

Also, perforated single copies of both Black and Blue are known, privately [and dare I say illegally] produced from the sheets. Exact numbers are not known. Both appeared at or shortly after the 1940 Centenary Exhibition.
I have never seen the perforated varieties.
