Recently I had the opportunity to bid on a 1963 US cover which is signed by the Washington DC Postmaster (thanks philb).
Here is a UK 1969 cover also signed by a "postmaster"... the Postmaster General of the United Kingdom John Stonehouse. He was the last Postmaster General as the powers of the Postmaster General were transferred to a new UK government position, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications in October 1969. The incumbent Postmaster, John Stonehouse, became the first Minister of Post and Telecommunications on 1 October 1969. In 1974, after losing his Member of Parliament position and some questionable business dealings, he faked his suicide in Miami, Florida. He was found alive and well in Australia and deported back to the UK where he spend time in jail. John Stonehouse was to be revealed as a Czech secret service agent in de-classified documents in more recent years.
