Yes, a lot of things are different since John left us..You can not replace someone like that with the huge hoard he could carry in his van and ALWAYS smiling and joking no matter what !! The covermania show in Albany is a shell of what it used to be without his room of stamps !
Hopefully it's ok that I post the link to their site, http://www.metroexpos.com I don't personally know as I've never been but I'll be going this year to check it out.
I spent many hours organizing that hoard in the last several months. He actually had three stocks; one in the van he always traveled with plus two others that he would replenish from.
John was something...we would go to the Lathem shows once in a while and when he saw my wife his face would light up and he would say "here comes the Dutch girl" and he would have some windmill items for her..which she usually had already..he did not care if you bought from him or not...when I saw the x number of tables he had I was always amazed how they fit in one vehicle..i would have needed a box truck...and then I remember he sold his business once and in no time he had rebuilt it...it takes talent to do that !
