I was fortunate to get this postcard at last week's meeting with our local club.

Beautiful card- before I clicked on pic my bad eyes read the ic as a K and I thought it said TITANK. Just thinking an imperf press sheet framed with that card below would be a super wall hanger.

The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry had the Titanic exhibit a while back. If it ever comes to your city, be sure you see it (and rent the headset). There was one section where it felt as though we were standing on the deck and could feel the chill and hear the waves. Also, there was a large block of ice that we could feel; the sign stated the the water was much colder than the ice.

If the water was much colder than the ice, wouldn't it have frozen? Many northern bodies of ocean water freeze solid in the winter, and along some shorelines, ice is harvested and stored in icehouses for use well into the summer months.

Salt water can be colder than freshwater ice (icebergs are freshwater). In the making of homemade ice cream we add lots of salt to make the water colder than ice but still liquid.

If this website is to be believed, the ship shown on the postcard is actually the sister ship Olympic; not the Titanic.

They also point out some errors in the descriptive paragraph below the picture. For example, the time is wrong and although in this link they show the loss of life at 1300 (yours shows 1500, but rather crudely, suggesting that someone either printed or penned it over with some corrected information)...even though the correct loss of life was actually 1523.

Agreed. This wouldn't be the first time or the last when a ship is incorrectly named.

I have also seen postcards naming two ships together and showing an image on one ship. Also common to see two identical postcards and two different names of ships. I guess by doing this, they sold more postcards

On a modestly related subject, I recently returned from a vacation aboard Celebrity Cruise Line's Millennium. Her specialty restaurant, The Olympic, is paneled with wood panelling recovered from RMS Olympic. Very cool.
