An interesting read about a birthday card that took 64 days to deliver. It all worked out well in the end, though, including an apology from Royal Mail and even some stamps to compensate for the delay:

While it's good that it all turned out in the end but I find it strange that this 1 piece of mail that didn't get delivered made the news. Like the USPS they probably handle millions of letters and parcels a day, but when one gets lost it's news ? I do understand that this is simply incompetence of someone not doing their job.

It was probably the boy's family that made the situation known to the local media. I could only imagine how I'd feel if I were 8 years old and were anxiously awaiting a birthday present from my grandmother, and had to wait more than two months to get it, so it was probably quite distressing at first to the young boy. In the end everything worked out alright, so it was really just a life lesson in having some patience more than anything else.

Besides, I don't think the UK media is particularly friendly toward Royal Mail, so anything they can do to expose their errors often makes for a news story.

Interesting story. It is also nice to know that there are still some post office entities that care about customer relations.
