KGV Complete Silver Jubilee Omnibus

This item is from the current Vance Auction:



As you can see in the image, the 2013 Scott Catalogue is $1,287.00. Per Vance's terms, these Mint stamps should be considered Hinged (MH).

I'm curious what other collectors would bid for this item -- especially some of you experienced KGV Collectors. ???

What's the start price ? Pretty poor description for such an item.
Are they mounted mint ?

Vance Auctions doesn't release the number, but they do have a "reserve" clause of sorts:
"We reserve the right to withdraw any lot at our discretion on which bidding fails to reach a reasonable level."

The stamps are MINT and assumed to be HINGED.

I would knock the VF MNH catalog $1,287 down to my F-VF H estimate of $450 (35%)

From there reduce, because for collections, F-VF often means the range for individual items is from Fine to VF;

More reduction for the possibility of heavy hinges, short perfs, and other problems with individual items.

All things considered $130, maybe up to $250 if I felt a special interest or had experience with the seller.

And does it include the key item ?
I thought there were 250 items in the Jubilee Omnibus .

I didn't know this. I would expect the entire collection to grade F/VF or higher (and no faulty stamps).

Given that Vance does not charge a buyer's fee (if I recall correctly) I would not be surprised to see the winning bid as high as 35% of listed catalog value.

I won't be bidding on the lot myself as it falls outside of my current collecting interests.

I should have emphasised that the 35% is my estimate of full catalog for the condition, that is, H vs. NH; F-VF vs. VF.

This would be 'Retail' price, not a price to pay at auction.

A mint Hinged [MH] copy of the Key value, an example of which was shown in my earlier post, has sold recently on ebay for a staggering £330 !

So what does that make the rest of the stamps worth ?

So it's not complete if they have gone by Scott !
if that's the case, I should try and find out who wins the lot and get in touch......

I just checked the auction and the details will bo on their site only Wednesday. So I must wait to see the hammer price.

Rather an odd auction I have to say, with some items giving Scott value and others an estimate.

Bit high for me. I think I paid $450 US for the collection I bought that is MLH and has no toning. Given I found two stamps with catalogue values of £110 and £200, respectively, I think I was a good buy. No Egypt in mine, though.

What is it with these KGV Jubilee collections without the key value ?
Seems most odd to me.
I have written to Vance and asked them about it. I asked if the Forces stamp was included in their Dec 5th Lot 404, and if it wasn't, then why did they call it complete. Totally misleading in my opinion.

What I wrote might not have been as clear as it could have been.

Scott says the complete set has 249 stamps, and they do not include the Egypt-British Forces in the total count. SG says that there are 250 stamps in the set, and includes the Egypt.

I tried to find out why Vance would call King George V Silver Jubillee set complete without including the British Force in Egypt stamp. I found this website GB Oveprints Society.

So maybe the are not consider part of the set because it's not the common design and also the fact that it is a military stamp for the use of militaries only.

You were clear. I was already aware that just about everywhere includes the Egypt stamp and it is commonly known to be the Key value of the Omnibus series. I was in shock by Scott not listing, and hence Vance auctions. More surprised at the latter considering they are part of the Commonwealth.

Above are just two places that specialize in the Silver Jubilee issue. I have yet to find a place that did not include the Egypt item. All dealers lists I have seen include it, all catalogues I have seen include it [except Scott apparently] and I don't believe I have ever seen 249 stamps noted as complete in any sales list or auction [except Vance].

In fact I found Vance auctions very confusing. If they have a printed catalogue maybe this is better, but online it is most odd.
I have, on occasion, seen the Egypt Jubilee stamp listed with the conotation 'Missing from many Jubilee collections'. I always took that to mean it was expensive so collections were purchased whole, or in part without that item.
Maybe now it can also be taken to mean 'If you collected the Jubilee Omnibus with Scott, this item will be missing from your collection' !
