Do the regular 3" binders hold up better over time than the Jumbo 4" ones? I only have used the Jumbo International binders and I know I have had to reinforce mine with booktape to keep them from coming apart. I might guess smaller binders would handle stress better from active use, but I would appreciate hearing from from those who have tried both.

(I assume that the same question applies to the two-post regular and large Specialty binders.)

Both sizes are made from the same materials. I've been collecting for over 50 years. I prefer the 3 inch binders because they are not as heavy. The extra weight of the 4 inch binder, in my opinion, seems to weaken the binders faster.

My speciality binders are also no more than 3 inches.

I have both 3" and 4" binders, and I much prefer the 3" binders primarily because of less heft and bulk.

I can't answer directly if the 4" is more susceptible to breaking down,as it hasn't happened with the (newer) 4" Binders I have- but no doubt the stresses on a 4" are greater.

Speaking of binder stress, my 2011 Scott Classic Specialized catalogue binder is almost completely stripped off. I use it every day, and have dropped it a few times- and well, it is plainly worse for the wear.

Thanks for the good information.

Jim, that's interesting about your Scott Classic. The binding on my 2007 is coming apart a little, but the real problem is several pages at the front and back have gotten creased and folded in on themselves. I haven't had this problem with any other catalogs, but as no one else has mentioned it, I assume it is "just me." Fortunately, I rarely use the print catalog anymore, as I have the 2007 on PDF and a full set of the 2013 on the iPad.
