Excellent thread. Thank you for asking about this.

I have the older Word 97 and you can use the Inser / Picture / AutoShapes.

The mouse right click gets you to some choices for the colours and lines.

Just learning all this myself.

I've used Word for my album pages for years, a little cumbersome for some things but great versitility. I like being able to create pages for varieties, I have a page that shows 6 different stages of the 2 cent Columbian lower right frame relief break. Custom pages really bring a collection together particularly with specialized items.

With the resources available on the internet and word processing or desktop publishing software you can build a much nicer album than you can ever buy. Additionally, there is no other option for covers.

Russ: "You can also easily align a grid using the table function and copying the boxes into the table cells, When you are done simply highlight the entire table, right click, select borders and shading, click none for border and the table border, horizontal and vertical lines will not show in printing."

I've tried aligning using the table functions but never got the hang of it. I noticed that once you add text to a box, you can not move that box.

Also once I put boxes on the page I can't place any text under the boxes, only in them. It's that (For Dummies)" thing.

I was able to make a page of boxes with text inside the boxes; aligning them by sight. I then printed it on one of Steiner's blank title pages with the country and other info on it.

The page came out great and was hard to tell from one of Steiner's country pages.

Timm, In the drawing toolbar make sure you are using the rectangle tool and not the text box. To align with the table place to boxes in the table and place the text in a second horizontal row below the cells with the boxes. You can also use empty columns to help hold the spacing. I just snap vertical and hrizontal lines as needed for alignment. You will find it easier it you tun on the page rule to help with alignment.

Edit: In the format auto shape box you can go to the "Layout" tab and select "Tight" this will alow you to easily move the box around and allows for better alignment of the text.
