Nice stamps same

Have you checked to see if they are forgeries / fakes or not?

There are a lot of those in the Italian States plus many other areas of philately.

Even if they are fakes, they make a nice collection specifically for that reason.

"forgeries of the inverted head varieties have been made by applying a faked head embossing to printer's waste without head. These forgeries are plentiful."

Scott catalogue

Thanks for showing them though.

The Speratti forgeries were quite unique on these issues. Rather than trying to make a complete forgery he would take regular issues and remove the inked parts leaving just the original embossed head. He the forged the outter plate and simply did it upside down leaving a legit embossed head inverted. The majority of experts were looking for fake embossing from the waste as mentioned so Sperattis fakes were many times passed as legit. Ironically his fakes are worth sometimes as much or more than the originals.

That is what I figured, I was just kind of wondering/hoping maybe it could've been some kind of legitimate error. Oh well.
