Whitman Publishing (the coin folder people) are offering on their website a free pdf brochure about how to organize a Successful Coin Club. While it's intentionally geared to coin collectors, using the acronym "NUMISMATICS", the concepts are general enough that those responsible for stamp clubs will find it useful, too, so I thought I'd post the link:

Quote:
Don't have a local coin club? You may want to consider starting one. Here's a FREE how to pamphlet on effective coin club management.

A Guide for Organizing, Operating and Growing a Successful Coin Club was produced from the accumulated notes over the years on effective club management by award-winning Whitman Publishing author Bill Fivaz. "It does not have all the answers, but if it offers the impetus for a club to get started or keep going when it looks like they are going under, it was well worth the effort," Fivaz says.

We thought clubs throughout the country might benefit from this information, so we are making it available at no charge by clicking here.

Nice document. I prefer to right-click and save to my harddrive so I have it to keep and don't have to read it in my browser.

Thanks,
Kirk

Tried to start a Stamp Club about this time last year.

One person talked all the time in a very loud aggressive manner.

Another person had trouble with me wearing jeans and a short sleeve collard shirt. Purchased from discount clothing store.

Another would not touch anything because he was afraid of germs because of an illness.

We never got together and I have never said anything about it till now.

I am more than happy with my SCF stamp club.

Sorry to laugh at your misfortune, but that's really funny!

I can imagine the advert in your local paper, "If you're crazy and thinking about collecting stamps, join us Monday night....."

Oh KGV how dispiriting!
Oh dear, some folks. You're better off with us, KGV!
I do hope, however, that you are dressed in suit and tie whilst online on SCF....!
Personally, I am always in full evening attire complete with diamond tiara.

Great article. Thanks w1 As many of you know. I tried to start a stamp club in our town. After a year we disbanded for lack of interest. Many of these the tips in this article were tried. Unfortunately the people that did come to our club meetings were only interested in one thing. Selling their collection.

KGV - Way to go for, pardon the OLD Americanism, but giving it the ol' college try!! If that was the stamp club in your town I wonder what kind of characters you have at other spots - church supper, tavern, barber shop/hair salon ...
