I've always been a bit befuddled when it comes to the stamps of the Marshall Islands, and now I sort of need to know a bit more about their stamps, as I see they have a nice sheet of train stamps out, one for each US state.
It seems Unicover is their official stamp retailer... I can't find anything related to an official postal website (at least not yet). I see that the islands use the US dollar, but are they actually a US possession?
Lastly, are Marshall Island stamps "wallpaper"? Supposedly they have less than 100,000 people living on the island!

Quote: Lastly, are Marshall Island stamps "wallpaper"? Not by a long shot. The Marshall Island stamps are easily sold and acquired by collectors. As for value many issues will go for face value unless it is a high demand stamp just like regular USA issues. You do have to take into account most are new from the 20th century. The WWII issues are very collectible with quite a few high values and were a very nicely designed series. |

I have a few issues from the early 2000's, but right now that new trains of 50 states is REALLY tempting! |

Nells250: Do you collect train stamps as a topical? I just saw a photo on my facebook feed of a sheet from Indonesia 1998 of trains. It made me think of this thread that I read earlier. |

The Marshall Islands issue that intrigued me was the "Presidential" replicas of a few years ago. |

Those presidentials are nifty! And yes, I like trains stamps, but am very picky about the quality of the design... |

That is correct, the complete pane of 50 is Scott #1041(3Nov2012). I stopped collecting Marshall Islands issues after the turn of the century. Sorry I can't help you there. Best wishes! |

To have a fairly comprehensive collection of Marshall Islands, I would think one needs to start with the German colonial stamps of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. |

The stamps from the WWII series relating to Poland are quite easy to find & are catalogued for less than a dollar each. Scott 239 1989 Invasion of Poland Scott 248 1990 Katyn Forest Massacre The same cannot be said for the two high value stamps of 2001 featuring boats engraved by Czeslaw Slania. I let these go by at the time thinking I'd pick them up easily later on. Big Mistake. I eventually found them last year after much hunting. Even now, none of the links indicated have them & there is only one of them available on ebay & delcampe. Scott 770 2001 boat Scott 771 2001 boat |
