As I was picking through one of my many piles of stamps I ran into a stamp with the name DHUFAR very clearly printed on the stamp and the picture of a man in native dress. I could not find a thing in Scotts so I went to google and sure enough there is a bunch of links about this place. There is a posting of quite a few stamps but not the one I have. There is even a wikipedia entry for the place and says it is a rebel area in the Sultanate of Oman.

Amazing the things you find on the internet. So I have this one lone stamp from a Dune country I guess you would call it. But if anyone is ever interested in this place there is quite a bit of information available. Just thought I would share my 'find'.

It's one of the countries in the "Trucial States".

Ah, the joys of collecting EVERYTHING!

Note the map of Dhufar at lower right. Due to a shortage of paper and ink, Dhufar was forced to get maximum mileage out of its topicals, so that little souvenir sheet covers horses, Olympics, space, and maps.

Nick, if Scott listed the Trucial States, it would require one entire additional $80-90 volume, whatever Scott costs now.

There are tens of thousands, in the "Basic 7" and their illegitimate offspring, such as Dhufar, Khor-Fakkan, one of the Yemen's, State of Oman, one bogus Sultanate, etc., etc.
