I was told by an exterminator that rock salt is a definite deternt at least from around the outside of a house. Seeing as they are inside a more drastic method may be in order. Unfortunatly ants seem to become impervious to many chemicals so human health has to be considered . Here we get 100000000's ( I counted 1 day) but they are so friggin small you almost have to fight an invisible giant. I grew very concerned when leaving a white pc of paper on the floor seemed to be an attractant so had to evacuate and mask up to spray the heck out of everything. Not sure of residule effects but had to be done. Do a killer outside barrier then fight the internal battle - If you put outside barrier then you have to kill everything inside since a deterant won't make them leave past your outside line. Kill the queen save the stamps! |

Crap! you are right! A grasshopper. Was too busy looking at the front end to notice the back end. Never mind.
Regarding the movie Them (one of my faves as a sci fi loving youth), I was thinking of the Charlton Heston movie, the Naked Jungle, based on the short story "Leiningen Versus the Ants". Either way sounds horrible. |

If you use grease please use dilectric grease on anything electrical. Any other might short out your outlet. |

Vacuum man is correct.
After re-reading your post, I now realize you were talking about the wall outlets. I was thinking something else. So disregard my post regarding using grease. You really can't do that with wall outlets. |

Well it is about 100f or 37c every day here now and we have had no rain for months. It is very dry and all the grass is dead well and truly now. This is another nasty drought. We put out water for the birds. This is very important thing to do here as the bird really get smashed by a drought.
So last night we put out 18 bowls of water all around the inside of the house. This morning the ant trail for the water have told me where all the ant nest are, as the ants are desperate for water as well.
Should of heard one of the ladies of the house sitting on a toilet covered in ants half asleep in the middle of last night.
So I have now discerned where 15 to 16 ant nest are from the ant trails leading out of the walls. This information is very important as to poison all the wall cavities was going to cost a very large amount of money that we do not have. Also on the outside wall cavities it is mostly very hard to get at as the roof slops down.
So now masses of ants going for the water in the bowls etc are dead and 16 nest in the wall cavities are now poisoned with nasty toxic stuff from the past.
To get a professional pest control person in to do the whole house cost wise is a total rip off. The insurance alone was going to be $500 and he could not answer my very basic questions.
Hopefully in a couple of days all the ants will be dead. The poison I used works in a couple of ways. One is that if they eat a dead ant it will kill the eater and that poisoning just keeps killing them as they keep eating the dead. The poison is destroyed by sunlight but in the dark it takes a 100 years before it starts to break down. You can not buy it anymore.
So it took a while before my brain started to work in the area of attacking insect infestation but I finally got there. What a nightmare! But it look like I got the answer! |

Thanks irishjack Really like the image. Never seen one before. The image below is Australia's ant eater. They are called an Echidna. But I think they only eat termites. |

Sorry to dredge up old threads (is that considered bad netiquette here?), but I just have to know - did you ever defeat the Great Ant Infestation of 2012, KGV? |

Hi, Living here in the Houston (Texas) area for over 30 years, I've had some experience with bugs. The best stuff by far was Chlordane, which was banned in the USA in the 1980s. Texas A&M University studied it and found it was still active after 25 years! If you have it available to you, use with caution and outside only. |

Wow good luck with the ant battle! Can you move your stamps to another location until there are no more ants? That would be terrible indeed to have any stamps eaten!
