I've been neglecting my Canadian collection lately, so my stamp club has proved to be a good place to pick up needed items.
Got these two high value pieces quite reasonably at last nights meeting.

Issue #176 50˘ depicts The Acadian Memorial Church at Grand Pré Nova Scotia. Issue #177 $1 depict Mount Edith Cavell.
Wish they had better cancels, but at least they are clean, reasonably well centred copies.
I'm happy.

Great stamps. I do not collect Canada, but have always wanted the Mt. Edith Cavell stamp because it was the peak was named for the nurse (Edith Cavell) who was executed by the Germans in WWI. I am a WWI history buff.

Those are fine stamps... Centering could have been better but they seems in really good shape.

Great stamps. I just acquired a Cavell as well. The centering on yours is about the same as mine and I think it's good - hard to find "perfect" copies of these stamps and the dealers are asking tremendous prices for those that come close. To rohumpy, my primary school was named Edith Cavell. I also have a keen interest in WWI and last year had the pleasure of visiting a number of battlefields in France, including Beaumont Hamel where the Newfoundland Regiment was wiped out on July 1, 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. I assume you are familiar with the 1919 Newfoundland set, "Trail of the Caribou" which commemorates the Regiment's battles in WWI. Beautiful set of matched stamps.

For rohumpy:

I have about two dozen photos taken in Paris by U.S. Army photographers in May 1945 right after the war ended. Here is the most striking, believed to be a display in a shop window--

"France has but one Heart - she offers it to her Allies"

NBStamper, I have seen the caribou stamps many times, but never connected the word(s) over the denomination with WWI battles. Live and learn. Thanks to those who commented on my post.

doug2222 that is a wonderful photo.
