POCON Cancel

BELL ISLAND, NL

2011 -04- 18

This cancel has the first example of a use of two different sizes of the date numerals that I have seen.

edit: re-typed sentence, also reduced original scan of 200 dpi by 75 percent.

Note that this is the first instance of a multiple-sized font used in the any line of text (date line) I have encountered.

Hi Puzzler. I don't quite understand what I'm supposed to be seeing ?

The font size, or height of the day indicater numerals, in the year-month-day dating line, on the cancel, is larger than the other numerals in that line.

Hello SaveBigBlue, welcome!

Nice to have a hand cancelled First Day Cover of he large Blue Whale stamp issue. Good Pocon cancel also. I live near there and don't have one from there yet (Almon St.).

I just thought I would start a list up. I like sorting and keeping things in place, so to speak, and hadb't seen anything like tis online in my searching for a POCON cancel myself.

Lately I have been slowed down on my list completion tasks here but hopefully will zoom back at it soon.

Thank you for the welcome. I imagine there are as many POCON designated numbers as there were/are official Postal outlets operating in Canada, since the number series was incorporated. I also believe that what we need, for those interested in determining just how many PO's there where overall since hand cancels where first incorporated and it would be someone's life project to compile a sample of every postally used cancel ever used in Canada - published. I even wonder if Canada Post maintained an archival record of the hand stamp cancels used in Canada since its conception (most likely before Confederation). I hope those reading this will find the time to search through their cover collections and make a digital close-up copy of the POCON, et al cancels to upload (with stamp intact) to see just how many are out there still in existence.

Hi Puzzler: I am having a bit of a problem trying to find a way of uploading my own image/avitar that I created from one of my Canadian stamps to put it beside my UserName (presently have no Avator and I do not want to use anyone of the default ones found on this site. Can you advise me how other members were able to upload their own Avator to put beside their UserName? please reply to my email address as I am unable to EMAIL anyone on this Stamp Community network because I am still considered a "new member". Send your advice/instructions on how I can upload my own Avatar to: *** Staff Edit - Remove Email Address***

Hello,

Ii will tell you here as it will be good for other readers of this topic to know also.

Go to Forum Home or All Forums.

Scroll downwards to almost the end, to the Community Support forum, or click here to go: https://goscf.com/f/13

Start a New Topic and call it something like Avatar Request or somethine similar.

Choose a picture, stamp related hopefully, that is appropriate.

Upload the picture to your post, do not crop, please allow the forum dad or staff to crop it.

Wait patiently, sometimes for up to one month, and the forum people will turn that picture, if appropriate (read Rules upper right) into your avatar picture.

You may also change the picture, using the same method as above, at another time.

Search for ' FAQ ' to read many postings about how to do things on this forum, but, you may always ask also.
