Thanks for all the tips folks. Yeah we will eventually get around to the coins but I was in much more of a hurry to unload the 6 boxes, we can take our time with the coins. Besides silver prices are bound to go up over time I would think.

Again thanks for everything. Dealer is hinting at .50/dollar for the face and maybe .10 a piece for the First Day of Issue cards, I think we'll take his offer and be done with the whole thing.

Dave

Thanks for the follow-up. Your question has generated a lot of comments and advice.

Sounds like the dealer is hinting at a reasonable offer considering the type of material. It's disappointing when stamp accumulators discover that their hoard of post office material can only be sold for less than face value. Fortunately you haven't any of your money tied up in the stamps.

As a result of your communication with board members and a visit from that stamp collector, you realize that the dealer is not ripping you off. I suppose you could negotiate for a bit more but at least you know you aren't being cheated.

By the way, the stamp collector who paid you a visit was very generous with his time. Most collectors I know are helpful.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I kind of feel funny saying your welcome seeing as I was the guy receiving all the benefits from the discussion. Yes that collector was very generous with his time and yes I'm sure glad I didn't sink so much of my money into a collection that returned .50 on the dollar.
