Not one to get excited easily ..yawn.. I've been looking through the old stamp book , its heavy going.Long story short I found browsing ebay quite informative , looking at pictures and seeing if I have that one , works quite well.
One stamp from France caught my eye because of the price , so having little else to do I thought id look to see if I have it.
Ill post the link here to ebay seller , can that price really be accurate ?

Am I missing something here ? Its been used hasnt it?

IF, it is really Prussian Blue. Otherwise it's worth more like 65-cents.

The one in your book is definitely not black and Prussian blue. Prussian blue is a very dark greenish blue. This is more like the 65-cent lilac blue.

It seems to me that it should be a lot bluer.

Color sample here:

Here are the three non-Prussian blue examples, your stamp, and the true Prussian blue.

By my eye your stamp matches most closely the stamp just to the left of it (not a Prussian Blue). It does not look to me like the shade of the true Prussian blue example.

Ahh well ..excitement over :) I learned about the prussian blue at least , thanks Guys.
Depending which light its in detemines which color it looks like , in dim light it does have a bluey hue , in straight white light it doesnt.
A nice stamp and a good story I read about the different types.

Thanks for asking the question, Wetglaswegian! I learned a few things
in the process, too.

I can tell the difference with Wet's stamp however I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the real Prussian blue and the first two that you posted T. Is there another way to identify this stamp?

If you have several of the common shades to compare to,
and you have a good color gauge you should be able to tentatively identify it.
Then I would send it to an expertizing service.

Well this gives me another reason to consider a color gauge. Which one do you recommend?

Definitely NOT Prussian blue. Never buy from someone who points out the faults (but doesn't really admit that it's faulty) and still calls it VF - simply laughable. And NEVER buy a stamp like this without a certificate from a reputable expertizing organization.

MK......

I think the best (relatively inexpensive) is the Gibbons Color Key. I thought I bought mine from Subway but I don't see it in their catalog. Approx $30.00.
