I am still a beginner in stamp collecting but I just came across this discrepancy between Stanley Gibbons CV and a ebay seller.

Stanley Gibbons: 140 pounds (20th product in the line)

Same set available on ebay for $13.45

Am I missing something?

140 pounds ($ 220) vs $ 13.45 ?

The S.G. price is what THEY (Stanley Gibbons) will sell a set to you for. The actual "value" is in most cases the S.G. price divided by eight. Often you see S.G. cat values used on ebay and the selling price can be as low as 3% of that... and it still doesn't sell!

Well, yes you are missing something. The set in the Stanley Gibbons sale is perforated SPECIMEN (Type B9). So it is not the same set. The SG value for the ebay set is about GBP28.

The other point to note is that that ebay auction hasn't ended yet. Who knows what the final price will be?
