Need help ID'ing this stamp. I'm leaning towards Spain but not sure. It almost looks like some sort of proof.

Yes, this is one of the Carlist (Spain) back-of-the-book issue remainders (3 bar cancel), retail 25c or less. They were in Scott long ago, not sure if they are now.

Actually, it's an unadopted essay from 1872. It's listed in the Galvez catalog for Spanish proofs and essays. It's most often found imperf, like the one pictured, but can also be found perforated. Can also be found in several colors. As far as I know they all have the 3-bar remainder cancel.

Amadeo I (30 May 1845 – 18 January 1890) was the only King of Spain from the House of Savoy. He was the second son of King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy and was known for most of his life as the Duke of Aosta, but reigned briefly as King of Spain from 1870 to 1873.
