Are Old Post Cards Collectable?

I usually use this simple litmus test. If the card's postage is an indicium - printed as part of the card then it is a postal card. If the card is printed without any form of postage payment or a free franking privilage (i.e. military postal cards) then it is a post card. There are some very early examples of postal cards with pictures on the other side like the 1900 Bavarian postal cards as well as early examples from Switzerland and France. I call these "picture postal cards". The postal systems can willy-nilly use whatever terms they want, but for philatelic purposes, I'm sticking to the the terms in my message.

And they do ... which complicates things for the rest of us (especially for novice stamp collectors) who must now differentiate and understand the use of the philatelic terms against what "willy-nilly" terms the post office attaches to these things.
