Hi! Through "overbuying", I've acquired several hundred duplicate US stamps, essentially from the Scott 700 thru 1200 issues. About 600 are MNH, the remaining 100 or so are MH.
I'm a long term Ebayer (over 1k - 100% positive feedbacks)and previously tried selling them in general groups of 100, with no success - which given the eventual low prices, surprised me a lot.
Most of these stamps - as nice as they are - are relatively common. So selling them individually seems to be more trouble than its worth.
So I'm wondering, would I be better off in offering 5-10 at a time of consecutive Scott numbers, or ???
What do you all suggest?

Sometimes complete year sets MNH are nice to pick up to fill holes, or pages. I've done it. I just wouldn't expect to make a lot of profit from it. |

Hi again, May I add, I'm not looking to make money on these, I just don't want to give them away. |

Like others have said, I would use as postage. Have you tried listing them more toward that purpose? |

People seem to have some luck putting them up here ... I would say by year might be best? Although I tend to need more to plug holes, so I find those on Stamps to Go ... |

Add up the total face value for the lot and start at 70-80% . Those that need 1-2 for collection will use the rest as postage. |

Thank you all for the advice and comments - it is appreciated. When I got back into the hobby last year - after a 40 year hiatus - I was absolutely shocked at the low ebay selling prices for MNH stamps from the 20s -50s! To the best of my recall, these MNH prices are cheaper than used prices from when I was first collecting in the '50s and '60s. Of course that is a double edged sword, for those low buy prices of today translate to low sell prices. Having said all that, I am just amazed that there are so many issues over 60-70 years old in outstanding condition that can be bought so cheaply. I guess it all comes down to supply and demand............... |

I'd say be honest with yourself. When you make comments like "I'm not looking to make money on these, I just don't want to give them away" you are clearly indicating you WANT to make money, however much, from selling these stamps.
I'd rather say trade and/or donate them. |

I'd agree with Katchem_ash. Honesty! and do your research. Be accurate in your description. |

One thing I keep in mind when selling something is thinking what would I spend for it as a buyer. That really helps put things in perspective. For older mint postage, that's around 70% of face. |

Katchem-ash, When I say "I'm not looking to make money" on the selling of my excess stamps, I meant (and should have written) that I am not looking to make a profit on them - or even break even for that matter. In example, the average price on the MNH is just over 40 cents each. I would be happy to get 20 cents each. Selling at face would be about 7 cents each.
That being said, if I new someone who was truly interested in getting into the hobby or just starting out, I would give them for free. |

It is somewhat surprising what "free" shipping does to a hesitant bidder. You actually can get multiple bids on a item. |
