Some time ago, I was in a bookstore in Orillia and just happened to see this book. As a rule, the regular book stores are shy of philatelic specialty books. This was the only one they had too and it was for sale for only $14.95. Needless to say, I grabbed it.

I do not have a lot of these stamps but do have a few in my collection.

Scott Weidensaul is better known for his writings on birds, so this is a bit of a tangent for him. Let us know how he handles the topic.

I just picked up a beautiful limited (5000) edition Michael Dumas framed and matted print of the 1990 duck stamp. It also has 2 of the stamps also nicely matted below the print. Cost me a few bucks more than $15 but basically got it for what the frame and matting would have cost. I'll do pics but its actually still in my trunk and this just reminded me.

Hi to all

Talking about recent finds, my Wife found this in a thrift shop for $5.00. She bought it on an off chance that I may find it interesting.
It is full of some very interesting information, even though it was published in 1970
Regards

Good find Horamkhet. I also had that book but paid a lot more for it. I am glad you got it at such a great bargain price.

Horamkhet - I also found that book a while back, at a flea market ($4.50), and just got done reading it for the 3rd time. It's one of the better general information stamp books I've seen.

I posted these in another forum but there wasn't much feedback, I am a firm believer in a good library if you want to persue any hobby thouroughly. So, here are a few book, I have, some quite old and out of print, but collectors items in themselves too.

Let's see what other members have in their library.

Hi Horamkhet

I am always on the lookout for books on stamps and postcards. Sometimes I will buy 'beginner' books too and that is because some of those books have fantastic photos etc to describe the hobby. I have between 350 to 400 regular books not counting clippings that I am filing on the computer, and the different journals etc for the societies I belong to.

With the cost of books lately though, it is hard to keep up on some of the more recent books in my topics.

Hi Bujutsu

I know where there is a copy of the Encyclopedia of Stamps it is eight volumes I think in plastic binders.
The person wants $80 australian, is this something I should consider buying? I think it was published in the 1970's

Is the author James A Mackay?

To be honest, I am not familiar with the 8-book set you are referring to. Are they cloth bound, spiral or magazine type?

Hi Bujutsu

Yes James Mackay is the editor and the magazine was originally published in weekly parts. I think there are one hundred parts in all. You could then buy plastic binders for each volume, and the last few parts form the index.

It was published in the same format as a magazine called 'Man, Myth and Magic'

I remember seeing a copy on ebay a few years back, but the postage was horrendous to Australia.
James Mackay was the keeper of the British Museum stamp collections I believe?
This copy has red plastic binders and is in good condition.

I believe that there was an abridged version published in book form, but I have never seen that either.
I am very tempted to buy it.

Thanks for that Horamkhet.

Yes, Mackay is well known in his field and I do have some of his books. If you have a chance to go for that set of 8 volumes, then I would go for it.

Hi Bujutsu
Thanks for the advice.
Hopefully no-one else has noticed it.
