Hi,
While browsing ebay yesterday, I saw a collection of BOB stamps including some good looking US "documentary" issues.

I playfully made a bid, just for "the fun of it", and of course ended up winning the auction. Its obvious I got a pretty good deal, but then it hit me......... I have no clue what documentary issues are for.

Is there anyone out there enlighten me?

Thank you Stallzer for the link. Obviously, document stamps are a medium to tax documented transactions. Goodness, what isn't taxed???

Documentaries are only the tip of the iceberg. There are essentially five areas that were covered by revenue stamps:
1) Alcohol
2) Tobacco
3) Food Products
4) Narcotics and Drugs
5) Financial Paper
However each area can have many dozens of specific taxes paid using stamps; the Scott catalog only shows a fraction of the total number of revenue stamps. And that is only at the federal level; states and local municipalities also issued their own as well.

Well, while I now know about documentary stamps, I just realized I have a problem........ While the Scotts' National US albums have all kinds of "back of the book" designations, there isn't any at all for Documentary Stamps. Is there a special supplement for them, or ???

There are Scott pages for just about anything listed in the Scott catalog except possibly match & medicines; there are other pages for them.

The Steiner pages available from http://www.stampalbums.com/ are real nice pages for US revenues. I use them for my collection, point being there are alternatives to Scott pages if one desires. BTW, Steiner has album pages for WW stamps, darned near all of them
