Effective 2 weeks ago, the penny has disappeared from circulation and vendors are supposed to round of any purchase to the closest 5c, so How much should I pay to buy a 2c stamp (if I want to add this to last year 61 c rate to post a letter at new rate - 63c)?

They are supposed to round down 1c and 2c, and up 3c and 4c. So if you want 1c or 2c stamps, rounded down they are.... 0c or free ! |

Of course you will have to buy them no more than one or two at a time...
"Can I buy 1c stamp?" "Yes, with tax it is...free" (repeat as needed) |

Hmmmm. Interesting. I am now waiting for the government to say that it is costing them more to produce a nickel than it is worth and to discontinue them and round everything off to the closest dime.
You know it and I know it, they do these things so that 'they' can make more money, not you and I.

What gets me is all the propaganda from the government about saving money by discontinuing the penny. So they're going to save a few million dollars same as they said when they got rid of the paper $1 and $2 bills. I hate these loonies and toonies
Meanwhile the federal government wasted tens of billions of dollars and hundreds of Canadian lives in a foreign war which was none of our business. And now they're going to waste tens of billions more if/when? the generals get their F-35s toys.
All our governments whether Federal, Provincial or Municipal do what they want not what you the taxpayer voted them in for.

I like the fact that if you just need to buy 1 stamp for postage the rate is 63c but will cost you 65c as they will round it up |

Now I'm reminded about an old Superman movie (#4?) where Lex Luther's big plan was to skim a few cents off everyone's bank account. "Nobody will notice, but we'll get rich." Hmmm... |

According to most businesses, they are rounding up or down as per basic rounding rules. Therefore a 1 or 2 cent stamp should be free..... |

Hmmm. Don't count on it. <G> The PO might come out with a new ruling by stating that they cannot sell one and two cent stamps singly - has to be in multiples of 2 or more. I shouldn't be saying this out loud, it might give them ideas Chimo Bujutsu |

Thanks BC. You know it is kind of sad that things like the penny and the 1c stamp are disappearing. It's just another part of the traditional Canadian way of life gone forever.
Well at least in the States they still have their Lincoln and their paper buck.
