I don't have the link at hand but a mint copy of the same stamp went for I believe 7 digits a year or so ago. Filling that hole will cost a fortune or the next one may come from a yard sale lot who knows.

Don't know what I'd bid but we do have to set priorities. A Penny Black or a second dress for my wife. Hmmmm

Scott #3 is one of the stamps listed in my "don't got it" list surrounded by brackets, meaning I'll never get one. But someday I might spring for a plate proof - they come up for sale / auction regularly. This one is in the current Maresch auction, with a catalogue value of $2500.

My 2012 catalogue says that only 1450 of these were issued although 50,000 were ordered. It also says that a mint VF goes for $150,000 and a MNH copy would have a 100% premium which means this stamp was catalogued at $300,000 so the buyer got it a little cheaper than catalogue =)

The provenance would also make this stamp worth more so actually the buyer got it at a big discount =)
