What Is On This 2012 Netherlands Stamp??

This stamp arrived today on a postcard. I tried to find it on the Netherlands post website, but didn't find it.

Just what animal is this?? Sort of looks like a squirrel, but I doubt it. Seems like stange design... Can anyone cast some light on what is being shown/commemorated?

Here's your answer. Part of a series of stamps. After some translation, it appears that "Adventures of Kancil" refers to a "Mouse Deer", some sort of children's book series:

The stamp is, as Wt1 states, part of a longer series that spans several years. The theme of this series is the Netherlands and the relations with her former Colonies.
This year ( 2012 ) was the turn of Indonesia. One of the stamps celebrating the Indonesia - Netherlands relations is the one above. It shows a dwarf deer, the subject of a book by the writer Indro Kanadjoro. ( Real name J.L. Broekveldt, son of a Dutch father and an Indonesian mother ) Name of the book: The adventures of Kantjil.

Rod, being Dutch I should be able to tell you what is going on.
The sheetlet is called "The Netherlands without borders" or maybe Netherland influance in the world. In this particular instance the subject is South Africa. All of the animals are probably wild animals occurring in South Africa.
One paragraph next to "Zuid Afrika" mentions Simon van der Stel, one of the founding fathers of the S.A. wine industry. The small town of Stellenbosch is named after Simon, and many of the wines of that region are still finding their way to Holland.
The second paragraph talks about the Cape/Dutch style of building. Many parts of South Africa were once colonized by Dutch settlers, hence the flag of South Africa shows among others the Dutch flag.
By the way, the animals are shown with relevant pictures. I see "the Nightwatch", Dutch style buildings in S.A, grapes and a Delft Blue vase with VOC inscriptions. ( VOC Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnies or united East Indian Companies ).
