Maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself can tell me what is going on. While working on my Guatemala want list I noticed my 2006 catalogue Lists numbers 130 and 132 but there is no 131 listed. Does anyone know why this is? I am hoping my entire numbering is not off, I don't think it is thanks to Phil who just filed some holes for me. I am wondering what became of no 131

Hi Rick....

My 09 shows the same gap......really not that unusual. Gaps like this can be found throughout Scott listings. The most common reason is that at the time an issue was expected but never issued....it's less expensive to leave it missing rather than re-numbering everything issued since then, but there have been times when listings have been re-numbered.

Scott 131 did exist, but Scott must have pulled it as a fake.

In my 1967 edition, Guatemala 131 is listed as the A13 25c on 150c dark blue with a carmine surcharge. Value at the time was given as $4.50 mint or used.

Rick, Phil must have been collecting this area long enough to have one in his collection.

This is interesting...i have scott # 129 25 on 150 with scarlet surcharge ...checking my Guatemala 2 stamps of Guatemala 1902 to 1971 it has a foot note about forgeries having to do with the size of the surcharge in milimeters..but they only recognizing 1 of the 25 on 150 surcharges...the one scott calls #129...

Rick I have decided 131 is only a number..i have one example of the 25 on 150 thats enough...who knows what posessed them to want to print values of 150 and 200 centavo stamps when what they were always running out of were the stamps for regular postage..hence all the surcharges .. a 10 centavo stamp got you first class to the United States AND Europe....

With 129 being described as the 131 once was, I have done some more checking.

In the 1967 edition, Scott had the 131, listed as stated, but NOT the 129.

In the 1932 editoin, Scott also had the 131 listed, but NOT the 129.

So somewhere between then and now, Scott simply renumbered the stamp and did
not eliminate a fake.

It simply placed the 25c on 150c in its proper place before the 25c on 200c.

Yes, and that it pays to buy a new set of catalogs every 35 years or so.
