Alright so just for the heck of it I was trying to think up of all the different areas in philately that are or can be places of nightmares or Disneyland for collectors.

1. Washingtons / Franklins - I am begining to enjoy these (I think )
2. Small Queens -
3. Australian KGV's (From what I have read on another forum, so much so that I am afraid to collect even one)
4. Indian states - and I am from India originally
5. Czechoslovakia - Ok, I know its not fair but I just hate looking at any of its stamps.
6. Machins? - Probably one of the toughest? Never have appealed to me.

Feel free to share your opinions or even add areas I have missed out on.

You can add Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico to the list of absolutely incomprehensible countries, primarily for their watermarks.

The different dies and color shades of early U.S. stamped postal envelopes. Is it buff, brown or just aged paper?

The 2 cent Washington of 1902. The Scott catalog came out with the shades a couple of years ago. I'm still no closer to figuring out what I have.

Mindpsyche
Appreciate your list and have nothing to add. I don't collect U.S. and have ducked Australia and India because looking at the catalogs makes me dizzy. Am working up nerve to try the "small queens" - already have a small accumulation and a few on cover. However, I do like Czechoslovakia and have purchased several collections recently and am beginning to try to organize my acquisitions. I also like the Machins (strange, right??) but haven't seriously tried to build this part of my collection yet.

Everyone has their own interests / likes :D
Wow I have not even heard of some of the other issues of other countries that are problematic.

NBStamper, you said your going to start sorting your Small Queens , Machins? I will say a silent prayer for you :D

I am a complete beginner so yeah when it comes to stuff like shades, paper type, I am lost. However, I have to give credit to the guys out there who have put up tons of information for free on the internet. This has really helped in igniting my interest to a great extent.
