(with apologies to South Park)

No, actually, blame my local stamp dealer who called me this afternoon and said "Hey, I found an auction lot of classic Canada that I thought I had lost. You interested?"

Ruhhhhh..... Rokay!

So I dropped by and gave it a once over. Lots of duplication, but also LOTS of catalog value... including some items you don't normally find in bulk lots.

The price was dirt cheap (comparatively speaking), so it came home with me. It would be a field day for the color shade/variety specialist.

Nice buy, I especially like the fact that the small queens have already been cataloged it seems? So no for you in that regard.

Also, its pretty clear that the collector wasn't content with one of each

Well, you can ask...

Seriously though, the quality is overall solid enough that many of the stamps are worth taking the time to lot up as singles for sale/trade, so I won't be flipping the lot as is. There are also some SOTN cancels I want to pull for myself.

Varieties (and faulty stamps) notwithstanding, we guesstimated that there's somewhere between $5,000 and $7,000 Scott.

I paid roughly 5% for the lot.

Every time I see something like this, I try telling myself "You already have those." followed by "Ooooh - Bright Shiney Object!! How much?!? 5%? I'll take it!"

Yup. That's me... a philatelic magpie.

Actually, there's somewhat of a method to the madness... my local dealer is now over 70. He's not going to be around forever. I might as while get while the getting is good now, as I won't have a local source for fresh material any more. He's the only shop that has anything at all to do with stamps within 150 miles.

I'm squirreling away material for me to have fun with in 15-20 years when I retire.

Wipping drool from chin- Pretty well almost guarantee a re entry or 5 in the 1/2c small queens, need to check the large queens for paper /wmk if bothwell paper (strong horizontal wove) and of course a few bluenose never hurt a deal.
