Here are images of a souvenir sheet and the stamp contained within it designed after a detail from painting entitled "Adoration of the Magi," by Flemish Baroque artist Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), engraved by Jean De Vos, and issued by Democratic Republic of the Congo in December, 1969 for Christmas, Scott No. 662. - nethryk |

Arrived today on a postcard. The card has a "Marker Money" cancel, but I got lucky... it is a pen "X" right NEXT to the stamp instead of ON it! |

The 500th anniversary of this beautiful painting was honored on a large block in 2012 (10 x 13 cm). It isn't strictly speaking a Christmas stamp, but it certainly fits in this thread. Raphael, Sistine Madonna, can be seen in Dresden; the painting measures 265 x 196 cm. |

As promised my first set (including phosphor band variances): Not well received at the time by some, but they grow on you. |

Nethryk and everyone some truly beautiful Christmas stamp images. Thank you. I might add I am not particularly religious, but feel that often Christmas issues are some of the best. |

Here is an image of a Christmas stamp depicting the Nativity, designed after a painting by Friar Juan Bautista Maíno (aka Mayno, 1569-1649), a Spanish painter of the Baroque period, entitled Adoración de los pastores ("Adoration of the Shepherds"), printed by photogravure, and issued by Spain on December 1, 1965, Scott No. 1330, plus an image of the relevant detail from Maíno's original work of art. - nethryk |
