Phil...Its about a 4-5 block walk..When you make the right turn off of the Bronx river, pass the County center, and make a quick right onto 119.
Get into the far left lane, go two lights, and make a left that will take you into a shopping center.
The shopping center has a huge bowling alley and a bunch of other stores.
There is a great fruit and vegetable store there, and Jopie can do some nice shopping.
They also have a great fish department, and also some great Italian cold cuts, and cheese section.
I buy a bag of bananas, for 59 cents a pound, and throw the bag in my car so they think I am still shopping there |

Had a great time at the White Plains show today. I was very happy to see more Stamp Dealers in attendence, and the joint was hopping.
Met the Philatelic Prince of Red Hook, and his lovely wife Jopie and spent some quality time looking for covers, and stamps that met our collecting interests.
Introduced my son, Robert, to Phil and Jopie, and then he left for a baseball card show that was held on the bottom floor.
I was able to pick up some nice Iceland complete sets, along with Egypt, and France.
Stayed about 3 hours, and then called it quits...All and all, a good day. |

Went back to the show today,. Phil had showed me a dealer yesterday who had a WW Comprehensive album which he was selling the stamps at a nickel each.
I decided to take my Scott's pre 1931 album, and went right to the table this A.M.
I grabbed the album, and just started to pull stamps that had blank spaces in my album.
After 2 hours, I pulled 230 stamps that I needed. |

I can not share Bobs enthusiasm for the show Friday..its always great to meet up with Bob..but I found the material the dealers were selling lacking...i mean I was prepared to spend some money for items I could use..but I came away with the impression that the dealers are bringing what they want to unload..we have never been disappointed at the Orapex show in Ottawa..the dealers are so friendly and accomodating..thats the way it should be..they have all kinds of dealers from stamp club members who bring stockbooks of their duplicates for a dime apiece to very sophisticated dealers who go out of their way to try and dig out something for you..one guy at the show yesterday told me the dealers were there to launder money..i asked him what he meant..he said do you see anybody spending money here at the show ? in other words he felt the dealers were there not to sell but to launder money..a bit of a stretch I believe..but I do wonder how some of the dealers can exist when they have to rent a table, stay at a hotel, travel, meals, replace stock and MAKE A PROFIT ?? They must show a loss on taxes ! |
