I am going to plagerize Scott Stamp Monthly here..so sue me ! When considering starting a new country collection..you may want to look at how many new issues they put out and the cost per year...i am going to use CATALOG value here as using the face value..in pounds, euros. quetzals etc would be too confusing...here are 2007 stamps issued by a few select countries and their Catalog value....Australia 2007 stamp count 184, catalog value $229.20 these are new issues so we are assuming mint stamps...France 114 stamps cat 312.75, Great Britain 117 stamps $280.70 cat. Germany 56 stamps , $135.20..Guatemala I had to throw that in 10 stamps, $9.85 catalog...if anyone wishes to see another country let me know and I will post it...

Phil:

Canada?

The trick to collecting any county's recent issues is to do what you and I do. Find a trading partner in the said country and collect each other's stamps.

That being said, I put a Supertanker into the post to you, this afternoon. the Christmas souvenir sheet is on the cover. $3.08 Cdn face. Simple. Hope it survives!

Cheers,

David

since I collect US I try to purchase each new issued directly at the post office at face value throughout the year. This helps keep my budget in check & my wife from asking too many questions. Then I try to get my annual supplements on sale (I use Mystic Heritage & Heirloom albums). I am a few years behind in placeing my new issues in my albums so that is a new year resolution.

Very interesting information. As I am almost completed with the coins, I will soon be jumping head first into stamps, so this will be a good benchmark for me to help convince the gf to give me a reasonable allowance.

The countries I would be interested in are:

Bosnia - both issuing authorities (or are there still 3?)
Croatia
Macedonia (FYROM)
Montenegro
Serbia
Slovenia

I guess Kosovo is issuing their own stamps as well?? Are they recognized by the UPU??
