Belgium is issuing chocolate flavored postage stamps for Easter. Keep them away from pets and children!

I read about this, and while the publicity is good I'm not a fan of these gimmicky issues.

Londonbus, be careful! You're going to the wrong country! That is not Belgium, that is Switzerland! But have a good trip, Peter

From above linked article:

Quote:
The Belgian post office released 538,000 stamps on Monday that have pictures of chocolate on the front but the essence of cacao oil in the glue at the back for taste and in the ink for smell.

From ebay:
Belgium 2013 Chocolate sheet.

You know the issue is a gimmick when the text on the stamp is in English instead of French and Flemish.

You know the issue is a gimmick . . .

Yes, a sales approach of course, as well as the chocolate smell and flavouring.

From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgium :

Quote:
Belgium has three official languages, which are in order of size of the native speaking population of Belgium: Dutch, French and German.

so the added English is likely due to being friendly to the stamp collecting community worldwide.

This issue was on the Chicago area news earlier this week and was a great surprise and promotion for philately. The supply is somewhat limited, and many likely will be used for their novelty. Could be a fun and good payoff to put a few away?
