I went to an estate sale today advertised to have a large British collection. I got there shortly after they opened. I asked where the collection was to have a look at it. The lady informed me that it was no longer part of the estate sale. I presume someone got a preview and made an offer they couldn't refuse. She said there were some books left and told me where they were. There was another fellow looking through them and I could tell he wasn't very happy either. There were 2 Stanley Gibbons specialized from 1998. also there were several other books. He looked through them and moseyed off. I saw 1 book that really got my attention. It is "Hong Kong & The Treaty Ports of China & Japan" by F.W. Webb and printed in 1961. This is one of the better reference books to be found on the subject and one I had on my wish list. It currently runs $200-$300 and this one is in mint shape. Other than a piece of paper inside it doesn't look to be used. It had a $25.00 tag on it. I could hardly get to the check out fast enough.
Every now and then, it is nice to get a real bargain like that. I once got a Scott "Germany, States & Colonies" album with the gold printing on the side with all the printed pages. This was like brand new too. Barely any wear at all. The pages plus the Morocco green binder was retailing for close to $200.00 at the time and I found this in a second hand book store for $15.00!
