I cannot locate this country for this stamp. Does anyone know. Many thanks again for your continued help.

Welcome Fisher: I know that photographing/scanning and posting images is always a bit of a learning curve for new SCF members. Maybe someone here (other than me) will recognize your stamp. If you think you can improve the image, a larger/clearer image would be a BIG help. If you haven't already, be sure to post a "Hello" over in the "Introduce Yourself" forum so we can all get to know you better. KirkS |

Welcome fisherwoman Your stamp is from Communist China or People's Republic of China. It is Scott #6L52 with a catalogue value of $1.25 in my 2009 Scott catalogue. Hope this helps? Chimo Bujutsu |

This set has moved up in price, especially in used condition. In the 2011 Gibbons, it is #CC80, £4.50 used = $7 approximately. |

Thank you all for helping me with this China stamp. Scott 6L52 does not appear in my old 1973 Scott Catalog. Is there another number to identify this? For now, I shall also note the kind post of doug with the Gibbons number and current price. This is a labor of love for sure. Fisherwoman |

Ms Fisher : I just checked the 2013 Scott, and the price has gone up a little: $1.60 unused, $1.25 used. Broadly speaking, prices for China are a bit unstable right now, but I'm not sure how much it has affected stamps as deep in the back of the book as these. China prices are volatile enough that Gibbons recently reissued their China catalog again since the 2011 edition. Ordinarily they don't do it that often, but I was told not too long ago by someone who works with Gibbons that since their catalogs are also their price list, they were forced to update that catalog quickly. The 2014 Scott volume for China should come out in the next several weeks, and China price-watchers will be able to see how radically Scott ended up changing their valuations. I have one of those new Scott volume 2's on order, so if you or someone else will post again to this thread as a reminder, I'd be very happy to check on this price at that time. (Good intentions, horrible memory. ) In the meantime, happy stamping! -- Dave |

Wow, Philatarium Dave, you are really an honorable man! I shall place a tickler note on my Google calendar and check back with you in a few weeks when hopefully you will have your new Scott's catalog! Please give me the Scott numbers for the blue star on my China stamp. Yippee! Fisherwoman |

Happy to help out! (And I need to justify the purchase of these overpriced catalogs!)

Quote: And I need to justify the purchase of these overpriced catalogs! Wow tell me about it. Last time I could afford to buy Scott Catalogs was back in 1983, think there were 3 volumes then. Wish I still had them though but they got lost or forgotten somewhere/somehow when we last moved about 15 years ago. Now I just go and borrow them from my local library. |

Yippee, I thank you so much lithograving for mentioning borrowing the catalogs from the library! I just borrowed the 2011 Scott's Catalogues and there are 7. I found this People's Republic of China stamp and the number, thanks to Bijutsu and Dave for locating it. Complete number is 6L52 A4 Time for a beer. Fisherwoman |

That's great that you have a library nearby that not only carries the Scott catalogues but updates them frequently enough that there can also be a circulating set! Fewer and fewer libraries are able to do this these days.
Just one minor detail: The complete number is just the first part: "6L52". The "A4" is the illustration number, to aid in the identification, but the "6L52" alone describes the stamp uniquely. If you were to look at online stamp selling, or dealer price lists, or go to a stamp show, you'd just see the Scott number alone being used, without the illustration number. Knowing this could save you a little time, in that, if you jot down any notes, you don't need that illustration number.
Congrats on beginning to dig deeper into this terrific hobby!

Hi again Dave,
Great tip not having to use the illustration number. I am tired of hunting down postal cards worldwide and so I asked my husband to give me a bone! I just graduated to first cover issues worldwide. The hunt begins anew...... Talk at ya,

Fisherwoman:
The new 2014 Scott volume 2 came in, and, amazingly, I remembered to check the value of the stamp we were discussing several weeks ago.
The mint version did go up a little for 2014:
People's Republic of China Scott 6L52
2014: mint: $1.75 used: $1.25
for comparison: 2013: mint: $1.60 used: $1.25
Not enough to retire on yet, but every little bit helps!
