The word in French means "depository," in the financial services sense. There was probably a town name in front, specifying "which" depository out of many.
I don't think you're going to solve a mystery. It is a partial cancellation, and unless only used in the major cities of, say, Paris, Marseilles, or Lyon, and identifiable by format, I think that's the end of the info available.
