I have been a user of all the knowledge available here so far but here is my first attempt at contributing something.
I'm a used worldwide collector which means mostly common stuff. A good example is the extensive Syracusa head series issued in Italy from 1950s to 1970s. I decided to make a spreadsheet - based on Scott catalogue - of all the issues and it has been a good experience.

The way I use it is to
1. Sort by face value
2. Sort by watermark (watermark ID remains a problem for me but I chose this project because of the easy to see watermarks)
3. Sort by size.
So far I am 63% complete. No great rarities here, the only catalogue values above $1 are the Scott 632 and 688b. To go deeper than this requires a specialist catalogue and there are hints of very rare watermark varieties.
This stuff never ends!

Here you go smauggie, the 60lire from the 1953-1954 printing. (I got lucky, this is the tough one to find according to cat. value, so I am optimistic that I can complete this series one day.)

I just stumbled on this site. The Syracusa series in '53 is the 5th item down on this page. The home page has links to everything or you can go forward or backward. Not the same thing as a spreadsheet, but useful catalog of Italian stamps (if you can "understand" some Italian).

Interesting Conker and quite concise.

To be honest, I have never compiled a list of what I have in my collection but have to admit, I do pretty well in not buying many duplicates.

I have done Word listings for a lot of my covers and postcards though.

Hi Conker, My main Italy interest is the 1930's to 1850's and the World War 1 overprints from my mothers birhplace Austria/Italy. Except for filling their album spaces I have no further interest in the Siracusa stamps..if I can help you from my duplicates I will !

Great start using the spreadsheet, Conker. Are the green highlighted entries the ones you have?

That's right, ncbuckeye, I keep tabs on the ones in my collection with the green highlights.
Thanks philb. I only have a few (mint) 1919 Italian Occupation of Austria so far but I suspect the used and covers are where all the interest is. At my current level of knowledge surcharges in general are a bit scary. Some of those double and inverted ones are valuable enough to beware of forgeries I guess.

Much appreciated philb, I will email you my address. What can I offer in return? My duplicates are so far very modest but let me know your interest and I will let you know if I can help.
These Italia definitives have certainly got my interest. My web researches have so far turned up 17 watermark variations - some apparently very rare - not to mention paper and flourescence differences.
I will post a summary when I have collated all this.
Thanks again!

Phil, Conker does not have enough post to e-mail you.
You may have to contact him.
