It is a Canadian "Small Queen" that has had it's color altered, it should be Green.

Hi Kasby, I would hazard a guess that it is a scott Canada 36d, issued from 1870-1889. The color seems a bit off though. I am sure members with more expertise will correct me though. How long have you been collecting?

Hi yakboomer
i ve been collecting since 1983, the old book of stamp is from 1950 and is made with an older collection.
I was asking myself, is it an error of color?

Kasby, I agree with stallzer, in that the original color has been altered in some way. Scott does list a blue-green variety but I do not have one to compare yours to. I'm sure that a unitrade catalogue would be more specific than the Scott. You may also be interested in this link which shows all Canadian stamps.

Hello Kasby & welcome to the forum

In the Unitrade Canada Specialised Catalogue, there is a 'blue-green' variety of this stamp. The one you have scanned appears to be that colour or very close to it. The catalogue # is 36d and is a Montreal printing. It has a CV of $3.00 to $6.00 depending on condition, centering etc.

Hope this helps?

I do not have a copy, but the blue green shade is more greener than yours. I remember a while back a blue example even darker (matching the 50c widow weed) was shown on Stamp Boards (you can Google it). It (and yours) are probably altered colors.

You should change you title to something like: "2c small queen unusual blue color?"

Hello,
i take my camera to get the picture, it s why it seems less blue than it is. I ve no scan yet sorry. But with the help of beesee, I ve found a topic on a blue 2c.: http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=10707
The picture of superkeen95 is better and my stamp has a color very closed to it. I m going to email to superkeen95 to know if he has some news. Just read his topic. Putting some bleach or near a window is not altering to this blue.
It remembers me the story of the 3 skilling discovery (yellow instead of green).
Eventually I cant get in touch with superkeen

I thought I would wake this thread up. The blue 2c small queen is probably altered, but I think we now have more small queen experts than when this was originally posted.

BC, I also think that the bluish color tone may be partly due to the background (red). Black background provides better color comparison, generally

I have numerous "changelings" in my stuff almost all are the green to blue, including a large queen and custom duty as well as others.I believe it has to do with the chemical composition of the ink used along with various element exposures.

I would agree with Gille's comment from two years ago...green minus yellow equals blue.
could be due to extended light exposure. The different pigments deteriorate at different rates. You'll often see old posters on lampposts where it's degenerated down to the base cyan colour. Usually the last to go, I think.
