While going through the garage I came across a box that says stamp collection on it. these are my grandpas old stamps, we got them when they moved in 2002 and I dont think they have been looked at since 1975. I opened it up to take a look and I saw some old ones but I have no idea what is valuable. There is probably a couple thousand stamps mixed between US and worldwide. If any one is interested I will take photo's. if not I will probably throw the box away

Welcome Treo.

Use the SEARCH button at the top of this page.

Search for the word inherit and you'll find about one thousand stories like yours, most of them with good advice on how to proceed.

Please do not throw them away. post some pictures of those you know or think may be older, preferably prior to 1940ish and some of the newer issues, and get some opinions for folks here. If, after that, you do not want them, then donate them to a local stamp club.

Here is a picture of one of the bags

Here is one of the box

Note: I also noticed alot of US stamps that were 1 cent. In the harris book there is a few from 1901 and most of the US stamps are older than 1940s. Lots of international ones I have no idea of the year

The Worldwide pile looks to have a few interesting bits and bobs. I see a 2/- Australian Roo but unfortunately it appears to have a bent or cut corner. The best thing is to separate them into Countries and save the condition so no others get damaged. All value in stamps is driven by condition no matter the catalog value.
