This is the topic that started it all...

https://goscf.com/t/32280

It actually turned out to be 554d after all!

It's a shame about the condition tho. This will affect it's value but I hope it will at least pay for itself (expertizing fees n all).

Extra special thanks to all who posted in that topic and encouraged me to send it in and have it looked at! Guess I'll try to consign it to Siegel and see what happens. Another learning experience.

I am very happy for you. What is the Scott catalog value for a VF copy?

I'm away from home and don't have a current catalog handy, but I'm certain a used VF copy is in the 4-digit range; my guess is $5000+!

Congrats!!

2013 US Scott Spec. Catalog says...

$10,000 used
$17,500 unused
$25,000 on cover

I don't know where they got that $10,000. The most I've seen a used one go for on auction is $3125.00 (Realized Price).

My 2011 Scott Specialized shows the 554d with a $10,000 used value. The note below it suggests that the value represents the sale price at a 2001 auction.

Also, you might find this 2011 census of the 554d's from Siegel Auctions of interest:

Is this census saying how many 554d's are known to exist, or is it saying how many 554d's Siegel had in their catalogs that year?

Wow congrats! To be quite honest I have a lot of trouble distinguishing these stamps so I never bother to check what type they are.
