Hello , back on here new to site as some of you may know again not personally a stamp collector just here for the facts..lol... anyways, question... I have numerous post cards with stamps etc maybe personal info regarding some important people since the Collection was to a Famous RFC , thus I have already sold Medals with the Collection in the Prior years.. the question I have is I am willing to sell them now..

I am interested in finding out the best avenue for sales , sorry to mention I have a lot of stamps along with this Collection.. does anyone have any input on a certain area of Auctions that I may approach with this collection due to the fact of the personal letters and airmail etc.. being that of someone famous as which in this era...

I have done sales with overseas area before for the Medals but these I am not sure of, since not a stamp collector I would not know the Value of the Collection that I have. I did find a few online.... I am not sure if I can ask the name of the Company ,

R.A. Siegal Auction?
Stamp Circut?

ebay although I have listed a few on there , again new to the world of stamps I am not really sure if that is a Best avenue for this Collection... being this is British RFC , the listings before seem to be of more intrests not here but in England.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and again I am not sure if this is the area I needed to be posting this form of question. thanks.

I for one could use some help for your terminology - what is an 'RFC' and what are 'medals'?

You will probably get 10 different answers on how to handle this, and some of the other more experts in this community will also chime in with some older posts on this topic. But that aside, I get asked this question from time to time, and my advice is to either (1) take the time, get a catalog and enjoy the hobby nature of collecting and organize the collection in some way--and then sell it with a sense of value, or (2) if you can't be bothered, i'd find a local auction house in your area and go take it to them and have them assess it with the eye towards them selling it; in this way their interest would align with yours as they would want to maximize the value...but you will pay a fee of 10-20% depending.

good luck

I beg to differ. A "local" auction house is the worst possible thing you can do. You are guaranteed to get the lowest price of any method you choose. Generally, the smartest guy at the local auction is the janitor.

For the medals, I'd contact Spink's in London, with a few high-quality photographs, and see what they think. In fact, post them here, let's take a look -- one at a time, both sides, any paperwork accompanying them.

Generic medals for a uniform (with a pin or a clasp) may be dirt-common, such as "Burma Campaign" or "Marksmanship" or "20 Years of Service." Medals in a box, personally presented for valor or achievement, are a different story.

Hello thank you for responding.. yes Local Auction sites wouldnt have a clue on this type of material... but sadly the Medals are sold several years back... they Belonged to a gentleman of high value in his ranking. this is why I was asking about the Post cards etc.. the stamps I would not have any idea which would be worth if anything value . there are quite a few.. World mainly , and US .. but that being said.. the Post Cards may have value being of whom they Belonged , since the Medals where bought by over seas years back , maybe I am thinking the same for the Post as well.....
